On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, the Pilsen Region hoisted the Ukrainian flag on the regional office building. It will thus commemorate the 30th anniversary of the declaration of independence of Ukraine on August 24, 1991. The hoisting of the flag was approved by the members of the Pilsen Regional Council. They decided to express their belonging and support to the citizens of Ukraine and the Ukrainian national minority in the Czech Republic.
The region was approached by the Ukrainian Initiative in the Czech Republic whether it would be possible to symbolically support Ukraine's independence, for example by hoisting the Ukrainian flag on the anniversary of independence. According to the representatives of the Ukrainian initiative, support for the democratization process in Ukraine is in the interest of the Ukrainian national minority in the Czech Republic.
