During his first official visit to the Pilsen Region, Finnish Ambassador Jukka Pesola outlined possible cooperation in the field of smart cities, digitalization or transport. No Finnish company currently operates in the region. Both sides, including the representatives of the Chamber of Commerce who attended the meeting on Monday (30 May 2022), want to change this situation.

Right at the beginning, the President of the Pilsen Region Rudolf Špoták congratulated the Finnish ambassador on winning the title of World Ice Hockey Champions on Sunday, while at the same time reminding that the Czech bronze is a medal success after ten years. He thus opened a relaxed debate with the Nordic side on possible cooperation. It is not only enthusiasm for hockey that unites the Czech Republic and Finland. “Finland, which has no company here, is interested in expanding in our region and perceives it very positively also in terms of the concept of smart cities. We are definitely interested in this cooperation and we intend to support it,” said Rudolf Špoták, President of the Pilsen Region.

The representatives of the Pilsen Region, the Honorary Consulate in Pilsen and the Chamber of Commerce discussed the projects that the Pilsen Region is planning. “We will also support the connection to be established between the University of Tampere and the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. We believe that we have now opened the door to cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and we will succeed in connecting investors so that they will head to the Pilsen Region or, on the contrary, from our region to Finland,” believes President Špoták.
