Gymnázium (Grammar School) and SOŠ (Secondary Vocational School) in Rokycany has been awarded the prestigious accreditation for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. This is a two-year secondary education programme taught in English in 140 countries worldwide, which provides an internationally recognised qualification for entry to universities worldwide. The Pilsen Region has thus become the first region in the Czech Republic to offer pupils internationally recognised baccalaureate qualifications in the IB programme in its own organisation.
“I am really proud that we have such a school in the region. Personally, I really appreciate the maximum efforts of the school management and in particular the headmaster Pavel Vlach. During the long accreditation process, he managed to prepare the school and to get the teachers to fundamentally change the grammar school concept of education, which is never easy,” said President of the Pilsen Region Ilona Mauritzová, after being acquainted with the certificate.
According to the school’s educational programme ‘Knowledge and Inspiration in Context’, the four-year grammar school is intended for candidates from the 9th grade of primary school who, in addition to the uniform entrance exam in Czech language and Mathematics, take the school entrance exam in English. In Years 1 and 2, the general education subjects are partly taught in English, while from Year 3 onwards, pupils study the IB DP World Programme in English.
