Andreas Künne is the new German Ambassador to the Czech Republic. He was received at the regional office on Thursday, 7 October, 2021 by President of the Region Ilona Mauritzová, her Vice President for Transportation Pavel Čížek and the Councillor for Tourism, Partner Regions, External Relations and Business Support Marcela Krejsová.
The main topics of the meeting were transport, pandemic management and mutual assistance, and cross-border projects.
In the field of transport, Vice President Čížek mentioned investments in the modernisation of the vehicle fleet, safety and the double-track connection on the train line to Munich, especially in view of the recent tragic event near Milaveč. In this context, President Mauritzová thanked for the excellent cooperation with the German emergency service during the intervention.
Councillor Marcela Krejsová remembered the 20th anniversary of the Pilsen Region’s cooperation with the German partner regions of Lower Bavaria and Upper Palatinate, which had brought a number of mutually beneficial projects. Currently, one such important activity is the construction of the Vintíř (Gűnther) Trail, which runs along the Bavarian-Czech border and commemorates the Benedictine monk and hermit Vintíř, who lived and served in the area of Šumava and the Bavarian Forest at the turn of the 10th and 11th centuries. The Ambassador also discussed the issue of innovation, science and research.
President Ilona Mauritzová and the German Ambassador summarised the intensive communication between the regions concerned during the pandemic measures and highly praised the mutual cooperation of hospitals during the crisis. The President then mentioned the very important assistance in the field of vaccination, namely the vaccination of cross-border workers who were given the opportunity to be vaccinated in Germany.
“We were pleased that the Ambassador chose the Pilsen Region as the first stop on his tour of the Czech Republic and I believe that mutual cooperation and communication will intensify thanks to these meetings,” said the President Ilona Mauritzová.
