January 2019 19:05, Milada Soukupová This year's ceremonial gathering to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic took place at the National Liberation Memorial at TG Masaryk Square in Pilsen as usual. The ceremony, held on October 28, 2018, was attended by President of the Pilsen Region Josef Bernard, Vice-president Pavel Čížek and Councillor Radka Trylčová. New Municipal Police officers took oath at the beginning of the ceremony. Then the national anthem of the Czech Republic was played, followed by ceremonial speeches. The President of the Region mentioned in his speech significant milestones in our history over the past hundred years, pointed to the horrors of war, and warned about underestimating the values and freedoms given to us by democracy. Finally he remembered TG Masaryk and his legacy. Thereafter, awards of the Chairman of the General Staff of the Army of the Czech Republic and Memorial Medals of the Regional Military Headquarters in Pilsen were passed; among others the President of the Pilsen Region Josef Bernard received a Memorial Medal. The ceremony ended with the laying of wreaths at the statue of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. Photogallery:
