The Pilsen Region will commemorate 30 years since the fall of the totalitarian regime in the then Czechoslovakia. President of the Pilsen Region Josef Bernard says: "History must be remembered and freedom is not a matter of course."

That is why the Pilsen Region has prepared a music happening called ‘Bands with a Story’ to commemorate the events of 1989. We will have the opportunity to remember and sing songs that accompanied our nation on the journey from totalitarianism to democracy.

The ‘Bands With a Story’  concert   will  take place   in  Pilsen   in  the  Republic  Square   on October 25, 2019
from 6 p.m. The performing musicians will be Míša Leicht and the band COP, singer and songwriter Jiří Dědeček and the oldest Czechoslovak folk band Spirituál Kvintet.

Spirituál Kvintet   will  celebrate   the 60th anniversary  next year  and will  say goodbye  to their fans  through
a series of concerts. Just to remind you, in November 1989, Spirituál Kvintet sang from the balcony of Melantrich in Prague, and a year later Presidents Václav Havel and George Bush sang along with the band members in the Wenceslas Square.  You may sing along their most popular songs ‘Až se k nám právo vrátí’ and ‘Jednou budem dál’ in the Republic Square in Pilsen.

Czech singer, songwriter, poet, lyricist and chairman of the Czech Center of PEN International Jiří Dědeček will also participate in the symbolic celebration of freedom. PEN International is the world's oldest human rights organization and also the oldest organization that promotes friendship and intellectual collaboration between writers. Jiří Dědeček is also involved in human rights activities in the non-profit organization People in Need. You will have a unique opportunity to listen to his song ‘Vraťte mi nepřítele’ at the concert.

We can also look forward to Míša Leicht and his band COP. In times of totalitarianism, the band played music inspired by American country for a variety of illegal groups of people who wanted to preserve in memory that it was the US Army that had liberated this part of the republic. The members of the band as well as their fans were very often in the police viewfinder. The founder and leader of the band Míša Leicht also actively participated in the revolutionary demonstrations in Pilsen.

Come on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 6 p.m. in the Republic Square in Pilsen to the biggest musical event of this kind in the Pilsen Region - Bands with a Story. Admission is free.
