In 2025, the Kajetán Children’s Choir from Pilsen was ranked among the ten best choirs in the world in the prestigious global ranking compiled by INTERKULTUR. As the only children’s choir included in this elite selection, Kajetán proudly represents not only the Czech choral tradition but also the European children’s choral scene on the world stage.
This exceptional achievement was significantly reinforced by the choir’s outstanding success at the European Choir Games & Grand Prix of Nations 2025, also organized by INTERKULTUR. Kajetán won the Grand Prix level in the Children’s Choir category, earning international recognition from leading conductors, composers, and performers, including Dario Lima (Voices of Singapore) and Morten Vinter (The Real Group).
“Being ranked among the ten best choirs in the world is an extraordinary recognition of the long-term dedication of our entire team and, above all, the children themselves. It is both a strong motivation and a great commitment for the years ahead,” says Anna-Marie Lahodová, conductor of the Kajetán Children’s Choir.
Long-term financial support from the Pilsen Region and the City of Pilsen has played a vital role in this success. It enables the choir to undertake concert tours, participate in international competitions, and pursue continuous artistic development. Thanks to this sustained support, Kajetán proudly represents the J. K. Tyl Theatre and the Pilsen Region both nationally and internationally.
Libor Picka, Councillor of the Pilsen Region for Culture, Landmark Preservation and Tourism, commented:
“The success of the Kajetán Children’s Choir deserves the highest respect. It reflects the exceptional talent and dedication of the young singers, as well as the systematic and demanding work of the conductors and the entire team. We are proud that the Pilsen Region has been able to support this outstanding choir over the years and help create conditions for its continued artistic growth and international success, through which it excellently represents our region at home and abroad.”
In 2026, the Kajetán Children’s Choir will continue its intensive international concert and competition programme. Highlights of the upcoming season include participation in three prestigious international events: the Cracovia Cantans in Poland (June), the Golden Gate International Choral Festival in California, USA (July), where the choir has been invited personally by the festival director and the organizing ensemble, and the renowned Tolosa Choral Contest in Spain (October).
“The invitation to the Golden Gate International Choral Festival confirms the choir’s growing international reputation. It is one of the most significant choral events on the American continent,” adds the conductor.
Alongside its international engagements, the choir will continue to contribute actively to the cultural life of Pilsen and the Czech Republic.
