In support of the citizens of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian flag was hoisted on the building of the Regional Authority of the Pilsen Region on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.
"We have decided to express our solidarity and support to the citizens of Belarus, who are now waging a valiant struggle against the undemocratic regime of dictator Lukashenko," said Marcela Krejsová, Vice President of the Pilsen Region.
The protests in Belarus began after Alexander Lukashenko, according to official data, defended the presidency. Protesters called the election rigged. The police intervened against them using tear gas, water cannons, flash grenades and rubber bullets. The intervention of the police has already been condemned by many politicians.
The white-and-red flag was used for the People's Republic of Belarus in 1918 before the country became a Soviet republic, and again after gaining independence from 1991 to 1995. It is now a symbol of protests.
