High-quality childcare, high-level education, low rate of unemployment or a great number of various social events. These are just a few reasons why the Pilsen Region has been declared the best place for life in the Czech Republic for a second time. Last year’s winner – Prague, dropped to second place and the Hradec Králové Region came third. A place for life is a socially beneficial survey mapping the quality of life of the citizens of all regions of the Czech Republic carried out by analytic agency Datank.

The Pilsen Region has become the best place for life in CR this year. The Region has earned this status namely by high-quality childcare and a good level of education. People live here longer than in other regions, they find a job easily and the rate of unemployment is second lowest in the CR. Another positive aspect is that the Region knows its problems and is trying to solve them.

Compared to the last year, the number of problematic drug users has significantly declined and the number of police patrols has increased. The citizens have more cultural or sport opportunities. People in the Pilsen Region are environmentally friendly and produce minimum waste. However, infrastructure remains a sore point of the Pilsen Region. The roads are few and a lot of people die on them. Although it is easier to get a job here than in other parts of the republic this does not hold true for the handicapped. The number of handicapped employees is second lowest in CR.

“The Pilsen Region has long kept the top position in many ratings and surveys based on socio-economic data. The victory in the ‘Place for Life 2014’ survey proves that, and I am really happy that we could repeat our victory from 2011. I would like to thank the representatives of towns and villages of our region, the companies and businessmen, and of course all the people who live here. I believe that for us all, the Pilsen Region is the best place for life in any year, not only now, when we can be proud of the ‘Place for Life 2014’ title,” said President Václav Šlajs.

In 2011, when the first year of the comparative survey ‘Place for Life’ was held, the Pilsen Region came first and kept one of the leading positions in the following years as well. In 2012, our Region came third, and then second in the following year.

President’s Deputy Jiří Struček took the award for the ‘Best Place for Life 2014’ on 27 November 2014 in the Adria Palace in Prague.
